The widow of Dr Michael Mosley, a beloved TV doctor known for his appearances on shows like The One Show, has shared her final moments with him in her first interview since his unexplained death.

Michael tragically passed away during a holiday on the Greek island of Symi in June last year. The 67-year-old went missing after going for a walk and his body was found days later following extensive search efforts.

Dr Clare Bailey Mosley has now recounted the events of that fateful day when they arrived on Symi by ferry on the evening of June 4 to stay with friends at their villa. She revealed: "We'd only been there for half a day before it happened."

After settling in, reading their books and taking a dip in the pool, Michael "got bored" as he wasn't enjoying his book and didn't like spending time on the beach. "So he said, 'I'm going exploring. I'm off for a walk," Dr Clare remembered, adding that she gave her husband her bottle of water and he had an umbrella to protect him from the sun.

The grieving widow recalled that her late husband left the villa at 1.30pm after receiving "instructions on where to walk" and "set off at a good pace, his rucksack on his back, up a steep hill."

Clare mentioned that Michael didn't bring his phone with him as he "didn't want to risk it getting wet on the boat ," reports the Mirror.

Clare recounted their final, unremarkable farewell: "It was just an ordinary exchange of words as he went off for his walk. Very banal. I don't think there was even a kiss."

Michael set off for a stroll while Clare and her mate enjoyed the afternoon on the beach. Upon returning home, they grew anxious upon realising Michael hadn't come back.

"When we got there and found that Michael wasn't back we were concerned. Had he walked directly, he'd have been there in under an hour," Clare confided to the Daily Mail. Sensing something amiss, they reported him missing at the local police station.

Yet, they faced frustration when informed by the police that action could only be taken after 48 hours since his disappearance, heightening Clare's worry amidst sweltering 40C heat. "I had to push really hard, but finally they agreed to get a local search-and-rescue team out," she persisted.

Tragically, Michael's body was discovered on June 9.

In December 2024, the inquest concluded with an open verdict regarding his death. Buckinghamshire's Senior Coroner, Crispin Butler, described Dr Mosley's demise as "indeterminate", likely caused by heatstroke or an undetected medical condition.

In his official statement, Mr Butler concluded that the doctor's death was not due to homicide, suicide, or injury-related accidents. He stated: "No medical cause of death could be ascertained, meaning Michael's death may have been due to a medical event or as a result of a non-traumatic accident."

Clare fondly remembered her husband as "a maverick, a bit of a risk-taker," and shared her admiration for his unique qualities: "He pushed boundaries. I loved him for that; it made him so special. He was unorthodox and just so brilliant."

Dr Jack Mosley reflected on the loss of his father earlier this year, expressing pride in his late father's accomplishments while acknowledging the "bittersweet" nature of his own success amidst mourning.

As the first anniversary of Michael's passing approached, Jack spoke with The Times about his father, who had provided advice on various topics including weight loss during his career, and promoted his new book, Food Noise: How Weight Loss Medications and Smart Nutrition Can Silence Your Cravings.

During the interview, Jack disclosed that he had only recently managed to listen to his father's BBC Radio 4 series Just One Thing. In this televised project from the previous year, Michael offered "simple tips" aimed at transforming lives.

Speaking to the media, Jack remarked: "It's only in the past few weeks that I've been able to listen to his Just One Thing series And obviously that's been bittersweet."

He also mentioned that the "whole reason" Michael - known for programmes like Trust Me, I'm a Doctor - remains present on radio, podcasts and TV is "something to be proud of", noting that his late father "helped a lot of people lead better lives."

Jack, who is on the path to becoming a GP himself, continued to honour Michael in the conversation. He described the late broadcaster, who penned several books including on diets throughout his career, as "a maverick" and a "master self-experimenter".
