A pretty UK village is said to provide a "slice of Italy". Wales, with its stunning landscapes and picturesque villages, is a favourite among both tourists and locals. One such Welsh village, Portmeirion in Gwynedd, North Wales, has been compared to Italy. Known for its breathtaking Mediterranean coastline and vibrant buildings, many people admire Italy for its beauty. Wales, too, draws visitors with its natural splendour, attracting those who enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and beach visits.

Nestled on the estuary of the River Dwyryd, Portmeirion offers a unique blend of Italian Riviera charm and rural Welsh beauty. As stated on the official website, Portmeirion Village is where the "Italian Riviera meets rural Wales with a riot of colour and architectural styles."

The village gained fame as the filming location for the 1960s TV series The Prisoner. It boasts an array of "colour-washed buildings around a central piazza, scenic surroundings and extensive woodlands, two hotels, historic cottages, gift shops, a spa and award winning restaurants."

A TikTok user recently shared a video exploring the beautiful areas of Portmeirion Village. People have been left totally stunned by it.

The caption of the post reads: "A slice of Italy in UK. Perfect place for weekend break from London. Colourful houses, coastal vibes!"

The short clip showcases the vibrantly-coloured buildings, some featuring domes, arched windows and balconies, set against the backdrop of diverse trees, flowers and a lily-covered lake in the exotic Japanese Garden.

The Portmeirion website reveals that this subtropical haven boasts some of Britain's most majestic trees, hidden gardens, a forgotten castle and exotic blooms.

Adventurers can delve into 70 acres of lush woodlands with 19 miles of trails weaving through the forest, uncovering secret spots and picturesque coastal coves.

The estate is peppered with mysterious locations such as the Dog Cemetery, Tanglewood, Ghost Garden and Shelter Valley.

Portmeirion is home to an array of unique species, thanks to Victorian-era tenants Henry Seymour Westmacott and renowned botanist Sir Williams Fothergill Cook, who planted an eclectic mix of monkey puzzle trees, pines, magnolias, camellias, towering redwoods and diverse rhododendrons.

Beach lovers will delight in the pristine sands of the Dwyryd Estuary at Portmeirion Village, waiting to be explored.

Dating back to the early 19th century, Portmeirion owes its existence to Welsh architect Clough Williams-Ellis, who purchased the land in 1925 with the vision of creating his ideal village.

The website further explains: "The concept of a tightly grouped coastal village had been envisaged by Clough Williams-Ellis years before he found the site, close to his own home in North Wales, on which he managed to realise his dream."

Williams-Ellis had long sought the perfect location for his dream village and, upon learning that the Aber Iâ estate near Penrhyndeudraeth was on the market, he "did not hesitate to make an offer."
