A leading Putin military expert has warned Russia’s war against Ukraine could be used to wipe Britain off the map with nuclear weapons. The dictator’s guru Sergei Karaganov, 72, aka Professor Doomsday, honorary chairman of the Russian Council for Foreign and Defence Policy.
It was vital that Russia use the war to defeat all of Europe, said Karaganov, known for his trigger-happy advice to Putin. Unless Britain stops aiding Ukraine, this could mean the UK “won’t exist” after a nuclear attack, he threatened. His intervention comes as Donald Trump is reported to be weighing sanctions against Vladimir Putin to force him to engage in a peace process, despite little sign the Kremlin dictator intends to do so.
Karaganov, meanwhile, shows what Putin’s true sinister aims in Ukraine may be. “We need to strengthen nuclear deterrence by any means,” he said on The Right to Know! show on TVC channel, owned by the Moscow city government.
Russia must “increase the reality of the use of nuclear weapons, and restore the fear of nuclear war,” he said. “The European question, unfortunately, cannot be resolved in a relatively peaceful way.”
A peace deal would “postpone this solution and get the same thing in a few years”, he said.
“I don't know the plans that our High Command has, the military plans, but it is quite obvious to me that in Ukraine it is necessary to defeat Europe. To make them run and bring it to the point where they realise the next wave of strikes will fall on their territory….if they resist, we should start hitting them with non-nuclear weapons.”
He said that Europe - including Britain - “needs to be scared off. The European disease must be treated. “If we have to treat it with the harshest methods, it is better to treat it with the harshest methods. But I don't want to.
“I hope that not all Europeans are mad. I hope that [this is true] even in Britain, cunning and playing the game of...pitting Ukraine against Russia.”
This was a “traditional game” from Britain, he said. “Even there, it can be explained to them what will happen to them if they continue these games. You have to start explicitly explaining - it’s quite easy, because there will be no Britain.
“What they're doing is madness. But Britain is a small country. They're gambling on a world war. What's going to happen to them? I’m not saying it will be terrible for everyone, but just that they won't exist anymore.
“Same thing I wouldn't want, God forbid, for France to be in the thick of a nuclear war either.”
On Europe, he said: “It's pretty clear to me that we need to go all the way. Leaving Ukraine as a potential anti-Russian bridgehead is not an option.”
