Jamie Carragher has taken to social media to express his deep concern following a distressing incident that marred the end of Liverpool's celebratory open top bus parade. The Reds legend shared an emotional message after the festivities, which saw the team showcase the Premier League trophy on Bank Holiday Monday, were overshadowed by a serious event.
Merseyside Police confirmed that individuals had been struck by a car on Water Street, leading to the arrest of a 53 year old man.
Carragher, evidently shaken, reached out on social media to convey his sentiments, posting a picture from earlier in the day of the Liver Building engulfed in red smoke, alongside the caption: "Devastating end to the day.........just pray everyone is ok." accompanied by emojis symbolising hope and love.
Liverpool Football Club also issued a statement regarding the troubling occurrence, stating: "We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening.", reports Liverpool Echo.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this serious incident.
"We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident."
