Bank holiday travellers are facing delays this morning after a car caught fire on the M40 northbound between Junction 7 (Thame) and Junction 8 (Oxford).

One of three lanes has been closed as emergency services respond to the vehicle fire. According to National Highways, normal traffic conditions are expected to return between 10am and 10:15am.

The incident is already causing disruption for those heading out for the May bank holiday, with traffic building in the affected area. Motorists are being advised to drive with caution and allow extra time for their journeys.

Live traffic cameras on the M40 northbound show the extent of the delays, though vehicles are still able to pass using the two open lanes. No further details about the vehicle or the cause of the fire have been released at this time.

Drivers can check live M40 northbound traffic cameras for real-time updates and are encouraged to follow official travel channels for the latest information.
