The winner of a Pablo Picasso painting valued at about €1 million was so stunned by the news that he first suspected it was a con, the raffle organiser has told the BBC.
Péri Cochin, speaking on BBC Radio 4's Front Row, said she had to join the winner, Ari Hodara, on a video call from Christie's in Paris to show him the artwork before he accepted the result.
The charity raffle sold over 120,000 tickets at €100 each to people around the world, raising roughly €11 million for Alzheimer’s research.
Cochin said Hodara has not yet decided whether he will keep the Picasso or put it up for sale, and discussions are ongoing.
The high-profile campaign drew widespread attention for both its prize and the funds it generated for medical research.
