Mohamed Salah twists knife into Man Utd with brutal message after Europa League final | Football | Sport![]() Mohamed Salah twisted the knife into Manchester United as he took to social media just minutes after the end of the Europa League final. The Red Devils were humiliated as they hit a new low by losing to Tottenham, who ended their 17-year wait for a major trophy. Brennan Johnson's scrappy goal just before the break proved to be the difference in a game of very little quality. United's players looked utterly dejected after the final whistle as their Tottenham counterparts wheeled away to celebrate. The red half of the stadium emptied within minutes and it did not take much longer for Salah to rub their noses in it. He took to X (formerly Twitter) just moments after the match had ended to congratulate Spurs on breaking their trophy duck. Making reference to what Ange Postecoglou famously said earlier in the campaign, Salah wrote: "He did say he’d win in his second season. Congratulations!" It was the nightmare scenario for United, who passed up on their final chance to end their dire season on a positive note. Their defeat also saw them miss out on Champions League qualification, meaning they will not be playing in Europe at all in 2025/26. Rio Ferdinand, who was on punditry duties for TNT Sports, commented: "A disaster of a season ending on a bad note, but I don't think United did enough to deserve it. "There was no real cutting edge in the Man Utd team. All that sustained pressure, the goalkeeper made one save in the whole game. You can't expect to win a trophy when you're a bit reserved." Paul Robinson, the former Tottenham goalkeeper, said on BBC Radio 5 Live: "They made substitutions but it was just plan A with different personnel. They are so rigid in this formation. "Things weren't quick enough. They weren't able to find the key to the door or pull this Tottenham defensive unit apart. "It will be Ange Postecoglou that will be having the last laugh tonight. It was a poor watch, it really was an awful game, but Tottenham ruined it. They spoiled the game. That was the game plan." It remains to be seen where United will go from here, with Ruben Amorim facing a mammoth task to restore former glories in the near future. Given their failure to secure European football next season, it could be a tough summer period for the Red Devils. Source link Posted: 2025-05-22 02:34:42 |
