Everybody with a TV is urged to take a look at this setting

While purchasing a new TV may be a happy moment, finding the right settings for you may be an annoying task. The standard settings may no deliver the best picture quality for you. Moreover, settings such as vivid - delivering a bright picture with heightened colour saturation and contrast - and eco mode - which is designed to save energy consumption - may not be to your likings. For example, while the latter will save you some money, it will result in a dim picture often making it looked washed out.

However, there are plenty of settings options that can improve your TV watching experience by enhancing the quality. With just a few tweaks, you can upgrade the quality of your TV picture in just minutes. This one specific hack is quick, easy and will make all the difference.

When it comes to sharpening an image, you may automatically think it will lead to an improved picture result, but in regards to TVs that's not always the case. While picture resolutions have increased from SD to HD, HD to 4K and now even 4K to 8K, bumping up the sharpness on your TV is not necessary.

According to a Which? expert, rather than transforming a blurry picture to becoming sharp, it can actually hide image details. It does this by overemphasising the contrast on the edges of objects to make them stand out more.

What you then end up with are hard highlights that make images look fake, sometimes jagged and even pixelated.

According to the expert, "keeping it [the sharpness] low or off altogether will give you a more natural and detailed image." The options to adjust the sharpness is usually found in the TVs picture settings.

Understanding your picture modes is also important in ensuring that your TV quality is exactly how you like it and then you can even change it to suit whatever you're watching. The expert however explained: "You should have your TV in standard and adjust the picture setting from there."

So next time you plan a movie night with friends and family, have a little play around with the settings to completely transform the quality and have a cinematic experience straight from the comfort of your home.
