Avocados go from bland to brilliantly flavourful if topped with 1 natural item

Avocado on toast is a great breakfast choice, but there is a simple way to make it even more delicious. Nicole Weston, a cook and founder of Baking Bites, has shared that you can add much more flavour to avocados with a little olive oil.

Nicole explained: “To make this breakfast treat, I simply slice up half an avocado and spread it onto well-toasted bread, then drizzle it with olive oil and sprinkle it with salt. Fruity olive oil (of course, I’m a fan of California olive oils, too!) has a slightly acidic bite that is a great contrast to the creamy avocado and salt brings all the flavours together. It’s addictive, I can assure you”

Avocados usually have a very mild buttery flavour, and on their own, they can be quite plain and boring to eat.

Olive oil enhances the natural flavour of avocado, as both contain monounsaturated fats, so the fruit will taste much richer, creamier and simply more intense.

High-quality olive oil usually has fruity or peppery undertones, which will also add a more complex flavour to this simple dish.

It will also help improve the texture, as the moisture will make the mashed avocado much silkier and give it a slight gloss, making it more appetising to eat.

This is a simple way to bring out the flavours of avocado, making a healthy breakfast that you will enjoy more.

How to make avocado on toast taste better

You will need:

  • One large slice of bread
  • Half a ripe avocado slice
  • Three teaspoons of olive oil
  • A generous pinch of sea salt

Instructions

To begin, toast the bread until it is golden, and then put it on a plate.

Cut the avocado while it is still in its peel, as the flesh can be quite slippery, and it is very easy to cut yourself.

Slice the avocado vertically with a knife, and then it should be easy to scoop it out with a large spoon.

Mash the avocado on the toast, then drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt. Sea salt helps balance the avocado's richness and makes it taste fresher and more vibrant.

Your avocado on toast should now have gone from bland to flavourful. Add any other additional ingredients you wish, like a fried egg or other seasoning, then dig in to eat.
