Chris Eubank Jr's dad arrives for Conor Benn fight despite calling son a 'disgrace' | Boxing | Sport

Chris Eubank Jr was joined by his father as they arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ahead of his highly-anticipated grudge fight against Conor Benn. The pair have endured a turbulent relationship over the years, with their differences coming to a head in the build-up to Saturday's event. As a result, the elder Eubank was not expected to be in attendance to support his son.

In a surprise twist just hours before the main event, the pair were seen walking together during the undercard bout between Liam Smith and Aaron McKenna. They even shared a brief embrace after getting out of their respective cars. The images were shown on the big screen inside the stadium, prompting a huge roar from the stunned crowd.

An appearance from Eubank Sr appeared to be off the cards after he criticised his son's decision to accept a fight with the son of his former rival Nigel Benn. He was also upset with Eubank Jr smashing an egg over Benn's head in a press conference earlier this year.

Referencing the infamous moment, Eubank Sr described his own son as a 'disgrace' in an emotional interview ahead of the fight.

He said: "I didn't teach you that. Who taught you that? That's disgraceful. I'm going to stand in your corner? You must be mad. I would never be in your corner.

"You're a disgrace. You're smashing an egg against someone's face and then you're trying to justify it. There's no justification for that. There's nothing noble about that."

His comments prompted a response from Eubank Jr, who said in the pre-fight press conference: "My own father, a man I idolised for my entire life, and he doesn't speak to me. He thinks I'm a disgrace. These things are what pain is to me."

Nigel Benn, who has been by his own son's side throughout the entire process, even begged Eubank Sr to change his mind while speaking to the media at the public workouts on Tuesday.

"I'm so sad Chris is not here," he said. "It's a family affair. I don't like to see a father and son fall out publicly. Sort out your issues behind closed doors and make up.

"I wish Chris didn't say that about his son publicly. Regardless of him smashing the egg, he's not a disgrace, he's done really well for himself, he shouldn't be saying that in public about his son and I'm sad about that. I wish Chris backed his son."
