Netflix fans have just days left to watch 'best film ever' before it leaves site | Films | Entertainment

This film is one that has become many people’s favourites but it’s due to leave Netflix soon. The 2016 film Patriots Day, starring Mark Wahlberg, is a film that has had many movie-lovers gripped. Patriots Day centres around a real-life bombing which took place in 2013 at the Boston Marathon.

In the terrorist attack, three people were killed and hundreds were wounded. On Letterboxed, the film synopsis reads: “In the aftermath of an unspeakable act of terror, Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders joins courageous survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the Boston Marathon bombers before they strike again.”

Wahlberg plays Sergeant Tommy Saunders and gives a performance which many fans have enjoyed.

According to LadBible, it has been called one of the "best movies ever".

The film is one of multiple screen adaptations of the real-life events. The bombing has inspired various on-screen shows, including Netflix's 2023 documentary, American Manhunt: The Boston Marathon Bombing.

Patriots Day was directed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Peter Berg, and inspired by the non-fiction book Boston Strong by Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge which retold the day's events.

One reviewer wrote: “A hard-hitting, emotional tribute to the courage and heroism portrayed on that tragic Boston day, Patriots Day is a terrifically acted and directed film that's simultaneously visceral and intimate.”

Another penned: “Forgot how amazing it is. One of Mark Wahlberg's best performances. This movie has some of the most intense moments I’ve ever seen.

“The action is shot in a way where you feel like you're almost a part of it, which makes it so much more tense.

“Also, I love the use of real surveillance footage throughout the movie. A gripping film that effectively captures the intensity and emotions surrounding the tragic real life events.”

Netflix streamers have until Tuesday, April 29, to watch the film before it leaves the platform.
