This pretty village is one that’s been recognised as a must-visit spot in Cornwall. Kingsand is a picturesque village that offers an idyllic escape for tourists seeking a more peaceful and authentic Cornish experience. Once a thriving fishing community, Kingsand is now more a hidden gem, known for its narrow winding streets, colourful cottages and a welcoming atmosphere.

Claire Allen spent a year exploring the UK coast by foot and shared her thoughts on Kingsand in Country Living, naming it the best seaside village in Cornwall and one of the top 5 in the whole of the British Isles among stiff competition.

She said: “The day I crossed from South Devon into Cornwall felt almost too perfect. Having walked through every one of the storms, Agnes to Jocelyn, the wind had dropped and the sun came out.”

Claire says of Kingsand: “There, we bought coffee and cinnamon buns from the Stores (and a pasty to share for lunch) and found an empty bench just above one of Kingsand's three beaches. 

“Fuelled by caffeine and sugar, we followed the South West Coast Path to reach Portwrinkle just in time for the sun to set.”

One standout feature of Kingsand is its stunning coastal setting, it sits overlooking the clear waters of Plymouth Sound.

The area is home to beautiful views and unspoiled beaches. Its shoreline is perfect for gentle walks, rock pooling, and wild swimming if you’re feeling adventurous. 

You’ll find cosy pubs and a few small independent shops and cafes that add to the village's relaxed feel.

For walkers and nature lovers, Kingsand is also a gateway to some spectacular coastal walks. 

The South West Coast Path passes right through the village, offering routes that will provide only the best views along the way.

One visitor who walked this path said on Tripadvisor: “We very much enjoyed walking along the coast path although it was so hot. Great views of the coast and coast line.”
