Tom Hardy to reprise long-awaited role despite major feud with co-star | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Tom Hardy is widely regarded as one of the most successful actors from the UK, and after three decades on screens, he seemingly has no interest in slowing down. The Londoner has recently returned to the spotlight with the new release of MobLand and Netflix’s Havoc.

Despite this, many of his longtime fans continue to question the possibility of the hit film franchise Mad Max making a comeback. Thankfully, 10 years after he last starred in it, the actor teased that a new instalment could finally be underway with Hardy reprising his role as the titular character, Max Rockatansky. With Mad Max: The Wasteland as the working title, the third film could reunite the actor with his co-star, Charlize Theron, one decade after their famous feud on set.

Theron, who starred as Furiosa, reportedly clashed with Hardy over the demanding nature of the production, which left the actress requesting extra security.

Speaking about the feud, showrunner George Miller told The Telegraph: “They were just two very different performers.

“Tom has a damage to him but also a brilliance that comes with it, and whatever was going on with him at the time, he had to be coaxed out of his trailer.

“Whereas Charlize was incredibly disciplined – a dancer by training, which is told in the precision of her performance – and always the first one on set,” he added.

However, the upcoming project would see Theron replaced with Anya Taylor-Joy and cast in the role of Furiosa, much like the 2023 movie Mad Max: Furiosa.

Although the film appears on Hardy’s IMDB page, there continues to be doubt about whether it will be made. The speculation comes after George opened up about the movie, and crushed hopes after revealing he has other movies he'd like to make first.

Earlier this year, the filmmaker told Vulture: “We’ve got another script. But having been doing this long enough where I’m habituated to storytelling, I find myself with way too many stories… So, there’s lots of stories.

“Indeed, one of them is a Mad Max. It is not something I would do next, because there’s two things I’m keen to do next.”

However, in April, Hardy spoke on the sequel and said: “There are always talks, but that doesn’t mean that things manifested.

“There’s a future where these things will continue to be talked about until something is realised, and I’m sure it will be at some point, but it just didn’t happen with me.”
