Epic role-playing game with 94-rating is reportedly making a comeback next week | Gaming | Entertainment

UPDATE (APRIL 15): A new leak has seemingly confirmed reports that the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remaster is about to make its debut on consoles and PC.

Just hours after it was claimed Oblivion Remastered would launch in the week beginning April 21, new images of the project were discovered on the website of developer Virtuous.

As you can see from the tweet below, the images showcase some of the upgrades fans can expect from the upcoming remaster.

ORIGINAL: After months of rumours and speculation, it looks like the long-awaited Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake could make its debut next week.

Speaking on the Giant Bomb podcast, industry insider Jeff Grubb claims the Oblivion remake will launch in the week beginning April 21. While an exact date is yet to be revealed, Grubb said that two separate sources have confirmed the release window.

Grubb believes the game will release as a shadow drop, which means it will launch on the same day it's officially announced. If any of the big companies announce plans to hold an online event next week, then expect Oblivion to be released on the same day.

Oblivion is arguably responsible for putting the Elder Scrolls series on the map, attracting a more mainstream audience following its release on Xbox 360.

It also contains one of gaming's most iconic moments, as players exit the sewers and step into the Oblivion's stunning open world for the first time. Moments like these helped the game earn a 94-rating on Metacritic and an overwhelmingly positive rating on Steam.

According to previous reports, the remake of the role-playing masterpiece is in development at Virtuous and has been remade using Unreal Engine 5.

Even better news is that despite Microsoft owning Bethesda, Oblivion will reportedly release on the PlayStation and PC, as well as Xbox.

With the next mainline entry in the Elder Scrolls series still a year or two away from release, the Oblivion remake should help plug the gap.

Bethesda explains more: "Step inside the most richly detailed and vibrant game-world ever created. Oblivion is the latest chapter in the epic Elder Scrolls saga.

"With a powerful combination of freeform gameplay and unprecedented graphics, you can unravel the main quest at your own pace or explore the vast world and find your own challenges."

It's unclear if the Oblivion remake will include the Knights of the Nine or Shivering Isles expansions, so we'll have to wait and see.
