Lawns will stay green and weed-free if you add one food item to soil

Many gardeners will be doing all they can to keep their lawns green and healthy throughout spring and summer and with the use of this common kitchen spice, doing so couldn't be any easier. There are many things that can damage lawns and make them go brown. The infestation of pests including beetles, ants, voles, squirrels, rabbits, and birds can damage to the root systems of the grass.

Additionally, it can also contribute to fungal diseases which cause brown patches and discoloration in lawns. But forunately, with a bit of cinnamon, those problems can be easily solved. The kitchen spice is an incredible antifungal agent, helping to prevent diseases and stopping them from spreading in the garden. What cinnamon does is suck the moisture out of the fungi which it requires to spread.

The application of cinnamon across your lawn is a great alternative to chemical fungicides which can harm your gardens. Not only that, but it also acts as a natural repellent. Creatures and pests find the scent off-putting and will therefore steer clear of your garden, if they sense cinnamon.

Other benefits of using cinnamon on your lawn includes helping reduce the amount of weeds and managing your soil's pH levels. A balanced pH level provides the necessary conditions for nutrient uptake by grass as a lack of ones such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium can lead to less robust growth and your grass being vulnerable to diseases and pests.

As great as cinnamon is, it is important that it is used correctly as too much can harm beneficial microorganisms that benefit the soil.

To tackle fungal issues or improve the quality of soil, apply up to four onces (approx 113 grams) per 10 square feet. In order to deal with pests, a lighter application of 0.25 to 0.5 ounces (seven grams to 14 grams) per 10 square feet will do the trick.

For those who might struggle to achieve an even distrbution, this cinnamon-water solution hack will also work. Just mix four to five tablespoons og ground cinnamon into a gallow of water, and using a watering can or sprayer go ahead and evenly apply the mixture to your soil or plants. Make sure however to not put it on top of your grass.

This will ensure that the cinnamon comes into direct contact with the areas that require attention. Sometimes reapplication might be necessary, especially with tougher cases, therefore waiting three to four weeks between treatments is recommended to give your lawn time to absorb the spice and see the improvements made.
