Today's Man Utd news as Andre Onana faces axe and chiefs eye big-money Premier League pair | Football | Sport

Plenty is happening behind the scenes at Manchester United in the wake of their Europa League draw with Lyon. Ruben Amorim is preparing the side for a trip to Newcastle on Sunday, before the crucial European return leg at Old Trafford next week.

Transfer plans are being put in place ahead of what promises to be a busy summer window. And there is uncertainty around the immediate future of goalkeeper Andre Onana following his unfortunate role in United blowing their lead in France. Here are your Manchester United news headlines on Saturday, April 12...

Andre Onana faces axe

The goalkeeper could lose his place in the starting XI against Newcastle on Sunday. He fumbled a free-kick into the net and then parried a shot straight into the path of Rayan Cherki in the 2-2 draw with Lyon, after Nemanja Matic had called him 'one of the worst United keepers ever'.

According to The Daily Mail, Amorim is weighing up whether to take him out of the firing line. That could mean a start for back-up goalie Altay Bayindir at St. James' Park, and a murky route back into the Premier League line-up for Onana.

Big-money Premier League pair eyed

United need more firepower up front and sporting director Jason Wilcox is scouring the Premier League for candidates. The Athletic are reporting that the two he has landed on are Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap.

Others are also likely to come into the fray as summer plans intensify, but Wolves star Cunha and Ipswich frontman Delap are believed to be two of the standout contenders.

Cunha has a £62.5million release clause and would be an ideal fit for one of the two No. 10 roles in Amorim's system. Delap, meanwhile, has proved himself as a capable lone striker, and he will be attainable for just £30m if the Tractor Boys are relegated.

Onana replacement sought

As if the news that he might be dropped for the next game is not worrying enough for Onana, United are reportedly making moves to secure his replacement. Gazzetta dello Sport say that club chiefs have already made enquiries with Brighton about Bart Verbruggen.

Signing the Dutch international wouldn't be easy, or cheap for that matter. The Seagulls are sure to demand a pretty penny for their No. 1, while Bayern Munich and AC Milan are also keeping tabs on his situation.
