Masters fans to get refunds after Augusta evacuated during practice round | Golf | Sport

Masters fans who faced disappointment due to bad weather cutting their viewing time will be refunded, the tournament chiefs have confirmed. After evacuating Augusta National at 11.25am on Monday due to anticipated scattered afternoon storms and persistent rain, officials by 3pm announced there'd be no reopening for the day.

In a statement released by the club, it was outlined: "Purchasers of Monday practice round tickets will be sent refunds in May and will be guaranteed the opportunity to purchase 2026 Monday practice round tickets. Further information will be included at the time of the refund."

Expressing his regret over the curtailed practice round, Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley stated: "We are disappointed our patrons could not fully enjoy today's practice round, but the safety of everyone at Augusta National is our highest priority and was the determining factor in the decision to cancel."

Ridley also shared some exciting news about Tiger Woods, despite his current Achilles injury keeping him out of action. The golf legend is set to design a new nine-hole short course as part of revamping The Patch, the much-loved local Augusta Municipal Golf Course.

The famous golfer is set to collaborate with Augusta National Golf Club on a major initiative. The partnership will see the creation of a TGR Learning Lab in Augusta aimed at giving young people from underprivileged backgrounds access to education in various essential fields.

Tiger Woods, excited about the collaboration, said: "Partnering with Augusta National Golf Club to serve its surrounding community is truly special.

"My passion for education and golf dates back a long time, as does my relationship with Augusta National and the city of Augusta.

"This is a transformational opportunity to empower the next generation and deliver meaningful educational programming and access to fun and affordable golf. I am excited to work alongside Augusta National and see both projects become a reality."
