Emma Raducanu enjoys world ranking leap again as Jess Pegula gets one over Coco Gauff | Tennis | Sport

It’s Monday, which means the WTA rankings have been updated once again. And it’s good news for Raducanu, who has gone up one place to No. 47 in the world.

The 22-year-old is currently taking a brief break from competition after reaching her first WTA 1000 quarter-final in Miami. Raducanu was set to represent Britain in their upcoming BJK Cup ties against Germany and the Netherlands but made the “difficult decision” to withdraw.

She has been replaced in the team by Jodie Burrage, who will join Katie Boulter, Harriet Dart, Sonay Kartal and Olivia Nicholls.

The world No. 47 had also entered next week’s WTA 250 in Rouen but will no longer compete. Her training block is expected to last a few weeks, with no return date set.

After playing seven tournaments in the first three months of the season, Raducanu’s team confirmed that she needed “space in the calendar to best look after her body.”

It was all change near the top of the rankings, as Pegula returned to her career-high of No. 3 in the world, overtaking Gauff. The 31-year-old was crowned the champion of the WTA 500 event in Charleston on Sunday, beating Sofia Kenin in the final.

The American has a good chance to keep rising up the rankings and set a new career high as she is defending zero points until June, having missed the whole clay-court season in 2024 through injury.

Daria Kasatkina, who recently stopped representing Russia and played her first tournament as an Australian in Charleston last week, dropped two spots to No. 14.

Danielle Collins suffered a disappointing drop as she failed to defend the Charleston title she won last year, falling from No. 22 to No. 32 in the world.

It was a different story for Kenin, who shot up 10 places to No. 34 after reaching the final.

British star Kartal has set a new career-high, jumping one spot to No. 60 in the world, but Katie Boulter dropped down to No. 40.
