How to remove mould from entire washing machines fast in one cycle

Cleaning washing machines might seem pointless, as their purpose is to clean dirty clothes. However, failing to do so can lead to odours and residue on freshly laundered items, as well as allowing a build-up of mould and bacteria within your machine.

Sarah Dempsey, an expert cleaner from MyJobQuote, has given insight into the optimal approach for maintaining a pristine washing machine and recommended products for the task. Cleaning the appliance can be challenging if you don’t know how to do it without leaving permanent damage. Areas such as the door seal require attention when you encounter unpleasant odours or see visible dark stains inside your washing machine.

A straightforward and effective method to clean washing machines will leave your appliance’s seal, drum, and drawer looking immaculate swiftly.

Sarah advised: “The best way to clean your washing machine seal is to run a hot wash cycle.”

Regarding appropriate cleaning agents, Sarah recommended: “You can purchase specific cleaners designed for cleaning your washing machine, such as Calgon products.”

The cleaner highlighted the effectiveness of this product, stating: “Engineers have agreed that these are the very best to remove mould and bacteria from your entire washing machine system, ensuring that it is safe, fresh, and free from smells.”

Sarah also noted that everyday household items can be handy for washing machine maintenance.

She said: “You can spray the washing machine drum with white vinegar and wipe it all around the drum with a clean cloth. This will help to get rid of residues and hard water stains and can even lift away grease easily.”

To delve deeper into the appliance’s cleaning process, she suggested: “You can also pour distilled white vinegar into the detergent dispenser and run the washing machine on a cycle with hot water. This will help to clean further into the system.”

On preventing mould accumulation within the washing machine, Sarah recommended avoiding sealing off certain parts after cleaning, explaining: “Whenever your washing machine is not in use, it’s important to leave the door slightly ajar.”

She continued by emphasising the importance of airflow, adding: “As well as the detergent drawer as this will allow air to circulate through the system, preventing the build-up of mould and bacteria.”

In cases where odours persist after these measures, Sarah advised checking another component: “Another area to consider cleaning is the standpipe. If you complete these steps and your washing machine is still smelling, it's worth inspecting the standpipe as there may be a collection of dirty, smelly water or mould.”
