Virgin Media dishes out big channel upgrade and a cheaper way to watch TV

UK sports fans are getting more things to watch. Virgin Media confirmed last week that it was adding the Premier Sports Rugby service to those already subscribing to the Premier Sports service. Now, the TV and telecoms firm is offering a much cheaper way to access this trio of channels, which includes Premier Sports 1, Premier Sports 2, and Premier Sports Rugby.

Those who fancy giving these channels a try and currently sign up and pay just £10 per month for the first three months - that's instead of the usual £15.99 price.

Once signed up, you'll have full access to content, including the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup, Scottish League Cup (Premier Sports Cup), LALIGA, Copa del Rey, Investec Champions Cup and EPCR Challenge Cup, United Rugby Championship and TOP14, Ice Hockey, Coppa Italia, and more.

It's available on devices including TiVo, V6 or Virgin TV 360 with Virgin telling users to check out their available offers here.

Speaking about the update, David Bouchier, Chief TV and Entertainment Officer at Virgin Media O2, said: “We’re always looking to give our customers added value, and hot off the heels of a brand new 24/7 rugby channel launching, we’re now offering sports fans the chance to tune in to Premier Sports for a little less with a special offering exclusively for Virgin TV customers.

"We know sport is a huge passion point for a lot of our customers, so it’s fantastic to be able to bring them closer to the action while helping them save a little extra too.”

HERE'S HOW TO FIND THE NEW CHANNELS

• Premier Sports 1: Ch551

• Premier Sports 2: Ch552

• Premier Sports Rugby: Ch553

Of course, this new incentive is great for those wanting more sporting action on their screens but it does also comes at bad time for Virgin Media users. Like most telly and broadband providers, costs have gone up this month, with Virgin hitting its users with a 7.5 percent hike.

A Virgin spokesperson said: “We know that price changes are never welcome, but with broadband usage on our network up by nearly 10% last year, we continue to provide excellent value for connectivity that our customers are relying on more than ever before."
