Spring is finally here, and although that's good news for those who love lighter evenings and warmer weather, it can be a bad time for those monthly bills. April is always the month that price hikes come into force, and 2025 is no different, with all of the major broadband providers confirming that things are going up for the majority of customers.

For example, BT has confirmed that some users will see their bills go up by 6.4 percent from this week. Sky is hiking things by 6.2 percent and some unlucky Virgin Media customers are being hit by a 7.5 percent increase.

If that simply sounds like too much for your finances to cope with then now is a good time to shop around and see what deals are currently available in your street.

As long as you are out of contract, you should be able to leave you current Internet Service Provider and switch to something new.

And don't forget that some of the best deals might not come from household names such as BT, TalkTalk and Sky.

Lots of so-called Alt-nets (Alternative Networks) have sprung up all over the UK with many offering much lower prices for much faster speeds.

For example, Community Fibre - which supplies large parts of London is currently offering deals that start from just £19 per month.

Hyperoptic - which is available in areas all over the UK - is now dishing out broadband for free with that deal lasting for three months.

Finding out what different cables and ISPs are in the street might sound like a pain, but Ofcom has a really handy postcode checker which instantly shows what services are available.

All you have to do is type in your postcode and it will reveal what suppliers can beam broadband into your home.

Even if it only shows Openreach, it is still worth shopping around, as lots of ISPs use these BT-owned cables. Sky, Vodafone, Plusnet and TalkTalk are all part of Openreach's network and there are deals to be grabbed that could cut your monthly bills.

Those switching to Sky or Vodafone can currently get fast 150Mbps speeds for under £29 per month. Plusnet says it has full fibre deals starting from £25.99 and EE is dishing out free broadband for three months and is offering up to £300 to cover any early exit fees.

Don't forget that the broadband price rises are coming and switching will save you some serious money.
