Eggs will be safe to eat when they're not eaten for one meal

Food health and safety experts have shared a list of some of the worst foods you could eat for leftovers, with some having their own hidden dangers. While leftovers are convenient, not all foods should be saved for the next day.

In a TikTok video series, experts from High Speed Training shared the foods you should probably reconsider eating as leftovers - and the best ways to store any uneaten grub. In the second part of the series, the expert urged people to take caution with eggs and any egg-based dishes. They said: “Egg-based dishes, for example quiche, egg salad, scrambled eggs can be more prone to bacterial growth especially salmonella.

"If not refrigerated soon after cooking, raw eggs are a known risk factor.”

To avoid any dangers when eating egg-based dishes, the experts said: “To stay safe, make sure to refrigerate these dishes within two hours and consume them within two days to prevent harmful bacteria from developing.”

Chef Robbie Nicolaisen told Southern Living: “Other than the texture becoming rubbery, reheating eggs can be bad for you if reheated too long or multiple times. Eggs turn green from overcooking by the nitrogen oxidizing, and therefore can actually make you sick."

When it comes to egg safety, the Food Standards Agency explained that they can be eaten a few days after the best before date if they’re cooked properly.

You should make sure both the white and yolk of the egg are cooked thoroughly.

You can use eggs a couple of days after the best before date in cooking or baking.

When it comes to storing eggs, the FSA explained that they should be kept in a cool, dry place.

However, in an ideal situation, eggs should be stored in the fridge.

It also pointed out that temperature changes can lead to condensation on the surface, which causes increased penetration of Salmonella from the outside of the shell into the egg.
