Gerwyn Price makes bold Luke Littler prediction after beating teen six times in a row | Other | Sport

Gerwyn Price insists nobody in the PDC can stop Luke Littler from eclipsing Phil Taylor’s record of 14 World Darts Championships. The Welshman, who has an excellent record against the teenager, says Littler’s consistency makes him impossible to halt on the biggest stage.

Price has beaten Littler in their last six meetings. That record includes Thursday’s victory for the Welshman in the final of Premier League Darts night six. Price defeated Littler 6-3 to win a night for the second time year, placing himself in a strong position to qualify for May’s play-offs.

Despite his own success against Littler, Price insists one-off victories over the 18-year-old will not extend to the World Championship stage. He believes Littler will surpass darts legend Taylor’s 14 world titles.

“Phil Taylor… when did he start? 29, 30? Luke’s got 12 years on him and he’s already got one,” Price said. “Unless there’s somebody coming through the ranks - which there is, there’s good kids - then I don’t think anybody in the PDC at the minute can stop him.

“Luke Humphries is good and we’re all good on our day. But he (Littler) is so consistent. I think he will do it.”

Price jokingly referenced Littler’s poor form in their matches. The 40-year-old confessed that Thursday’s victory over the Nuke was more down to his opponent’s display than his own performance.

“I think he just falls a little bit against me,” Price said with a wry smile. “Sometimes I do play really well against him, like I did in Bahrain. A couple of times I’ll play really well. Tonight, I didn’t and it was probably more in his head than the way I was playing. But yeah, I hope that continues.”

Littler has otherwise been in tremendous form this year, which started with a sensational maiden World Championship at Alexandra Palace. Thursday marked his fourth appearance in the final of a 2025 Premier League night. He has only recorded two victories and he has leapfrogged Luke Humphries to lead the overall standings.

The world No. 2’s excellent form over the past few weeks also includes winning the UK Open and the Belgian Darts Open. Premier League Darts heads to Cardiff next week, with Price hoping for another victory over Littler in his hometown. Price begins against Rob Cross while Littler meets Nathan Aspinall.
