Chris Eubank Jr handed huge fine for slapping Conor Benn with an egg | Boxing | Sport

Chris Eubank Jr has been fined £100,000 for hitting Conor Benn with an egg during their media conference last month. As the pair prepared to face off for the cameras, Eubank took the egg from his pocket and hit his bitter rival across the face with his left hand.

His behaviour sparked chaotic scenes. Benn, accompanied by father Nigel, reacted by trying to lash out and both boxers were pulled away by security guards. The British Boxing Board of Control have now released a statement confirming that Eubank, 35, will be sanctioned financially for the incident in Manchester.

“Following a hearing before the stewards of the British Boxing Board of Control, Chris Eubank Jnr was found to be in breach of regulation 25 (misconduct) for his conduct at the press conference in Manchester for the Chris Eubank Jnr v Conor Benn contest on 26th April," the statement read. "As such, the stewards of the board fined Chris Eubank Jnr the sum of £100,000.”

Eubank's behaviour was a clear reference to the scheduled fight between the pair in October 2022, which was called off when Benn failed a voluntary drugs test. The saga with the anti-doping authorities lasted a further two years before his suspension was lifted in November 2024.

Benn has continued to deny intentionally doping. He was eventually cleared following an independent report by the World Boxing Council (WBC), which attributed the 28-year-old's failed to a "highly elevated consumption" of eggs.

Eubank has shown little remorse since the press conference, saying: "I did what needed to be done. Conor Benn failed two drugs tests. Conor, and Matchroom and Eddie Hearn said that contaminated eggs were the reason why he failed those two drug tests.

"Now as absurd as that sounds, that's the excuse they managed to come up with. So I felt that it was only right that I physically contaminated him with an egg. I felt that was the fair thing to do."

The bout between Eubank and Benn will take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It will be contested at 160lbs, three pounds heavier than the agreement for their cancelled clash in October 2022.
