Roses will grow 'abundant blooms' if gardeners follow 1 key step

The secret to flourishing roses lies in choosing the right variety and implementing a few essential care steps, especially as the seasons shift. As spring approaches, gardeners are eager to prepare their roses for success, ensuring they enjoy many healthy blooms in the coming months.

Garden experts at Dino Decking highlighted one crucial care step that stands out among the many tips that can make all the difference. According to the gardening pros, the key to healthy, thriving roses begins with proper planting and preparation, and the right variety is a great place to start. “Different types of roses suit different gardens and growing conditions," explained Richard King.

"For example, Hybrid tea roses are a classic choice, known for their large, elegant blooms that are perfect for cutting."

Choosing the right rose variety for your climate and garden conditions will set the stage for successful growth and vibrant flowers.

In addition to selecting the right type, planting bare-root roses between November and March offers an advantage that should not be ignored.

Richard continued: “When it comes to planting roses in winter, bare-root roses are the best choice.

"During this dormant season, the plants are less likely to experience transplant shock, allowing their roots to establish more easily before spring growth begins.”

This step ensures that your roses have a head start when spring arrives, encouraging strong roots and a healthy plant.

Equally important is ensuring your roses get the proper sunlight and are planted in the right soil.

"Roses love sunlight! — Make sure to plant them in a location with at least six hours of direct sun per day to encourage strong growth and abundant blooms," Richard advised.

Roses also thrive in well-draining, nutrient-rich soil, which is key to preventing waterlogged conditions and encouraging healthy root development.

Adding compost or fertiliser helps to give your roses the nutrition they need to grow strong and produce beautiful blooms.
