Ruben Amorim to confront Garnacho as Man Utd star posts on Instagram after early sub | Football | Sport

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim says he will talk to Alejandro Garnacho about his reaction to being substituted against Ipswich Town.

United went down to 10 men after January signing Patrick Dorgu was shown a straight red card for a high tackle on Omari Hutchinson. Amorim battened down the hatches with his side 2-1 up, and sacrificed Garnacho for Noussair Mazraoui before half time.

The Argentina international did not look best pleased as he trudged straight down the tunnel instead of taking a seat on the bench. Amorim went on to address notions of an attitude problem after the Red Devils ground out a 3-2 victory.

"It was cold, wet and rainy," he explained when asked about Garnacho making a beeline for the tunnel. "The thing was, we were changing it to 5-3-1 and had to make a sub. We had to choose someone to go out.

"I had to think think about set-pieces. It was my choice. You are comparing it with [Marcus] Rashford? I am going to talk with Garnacho about that. You can ask me about it at the next press conference."

Any thoughts of Garnacho heading for the tunnel purely due to the weather were seemingly cast aside when, shortly after the game, the winger posted a picture to Instagram of him holding his nose with his head bowed while walking off the pitch.

Fans have noted that the story strikes an odd tone given that United managed a miraculous victory while a man light and struggling for results.

Jaden Philogene levelled it up at 2-2 in first-half stoppage time and it looked as though Ipswich could kick on to win the game. But Harry Maguire headed in from a corner shortly after the restart, sending United up one place to 14th.

It remains to be seen whether Garnacho will be back in contention to feature against Fulham in the FA Cup on Sunday, or whether his social media response has landed him in hot water.

An online outburst proved to be the end of Jadon Sancho's relationship with former United manager Erik ten Hag, although his words were more targeted than Garnacho's subtle message of discontent.

Despite his upcoming meeting with the unhappy winger, Amorim found plenty of reasons to feel positive after a tough night at Old Trafford.

"The sending off changed the game a bit but the fight the fans showed... the fans helped a lot and we fully deserved the three points," he told TNT Sports. "There are some moments that are really hard but that's natural in every profession, you need to suffer."
