Luke Littler told to create two bank accounts after losing over £500k | Other | Sport

Luke Littler has been advised to create two bank accounts by darts legend Phil Taylor. The now-retired Taylor has revealed that he kept two bank accounts to manage his finances during his career.

A large part of Littler’s income will be taxed at 45 per cent due to his huge earnings during his first full year on the senior PDC tour. The newly-crowned world champion has banked over £1.1m in prize money over the past year.

The 18-year-old has previously revealed that he is frugal with his cash despite his success over the last year. However, Taylor believes it would still be a good idea to split his money evenly between two bank accounts so that he knows exactly how much he will pay in tax.

"Make sure you look after your money,” Taylor told SportBible when asked what advice he would offer to Littler.

“Two bank accounts - one in one, and half in another. So that's your tax. That's what I always used to do. Try to start investing your money, so if anything happens, if you fall down and break your arm or something, you've got something to fall back on."

Taylor also advised Littler to hire a social media manager to look after his online channels. The 64-year-old has warned that seeing negative comments can be upsetting. Littler is a keen user of Facebook, Instagram and X.

“Keep off social media,” Taylor added. “Don't bother with it. Let somebody else do it for you. You don't need to read things because it can upset.”

Littler has revealed that he does not spend lavishly. The world No. 2 is known to have treated friends and family to holidays and meals out.

"I've always loved a Mercedes A-Class - just a small car,” Littler explained last year. “Last year, I was looking at driving, and I loved the Ford Focus, but now I’ve gone up in the world just a little!

“I haven’t had driving lessons yet because it’s been so hectic, but I’m going to have to do it before I get into my twenties when it’ll be too late and I can’t be bothered. If I get a car, it won't be a birthday present from anyone. I think it would have to be a birthday present from me to me.”

Littler triumphed on night two of Premier League Darts on Thursday. He defeated Luke Humphries 6-5 in the final in Glasgow.
