Sky confirms another new way to watch TV is coming soon - its price will surprise you

It's been a big week for Sky. The firm announced the launch of its new Glass Gen 2 at a major event in London with the broadband-connected telly getting a much-improved Quantum Dot screen, booming sound via its in-built Dolby Atmos-powered sound bar and a more simple set-up with Sky promising that users won't even need a screwdriver to attach the stand and get up and running.

Sky Glass Gen 2 is already on sale with prices starting from £14 per month for the TV and £29 per month if you want the screen and a basic content package.

It's a pretty reasonable price, and it's no more expensive than the Gen 1 model which it now replaces. But if it still sounds a little too much for your wallet, then good news is on the horizon.

During the Gen 2 launch, Sky surprised the crowd by announcing that another new TV would be launched later this year.

It's called Sky Glass Air, and it's been confirmed that it will be cheaper than its sibling.

"Later this year, Sky will launch Sky Glass Air, the smarter TV for less," Sky confirmed.

Express.co.uk did manage to see this budget gogglebox during Sky's showcase and it looks like a decent screen.

Although there's no built-in soundbar, it still gets stereo speakers with Dolby Audio. There's also a 4K Quantum Dot panel, and it runs on Sky OS, so it will offer full access to live and on-demand content without needing a dish. Having seen it in the flesh, it's also much thinner and lighter than the Gen 2 version, which some might prefer.

Sky isn't giving any indication of a release date or a price but we do know it will be cheaper than Sky Glass Gen 2 and come in three colours including Carbon Grey, Cotton White and Sea Green.

There will also be three sizes to choose from with 43”, 55” and 65” displays as part of the range.

We'll update you as soon as we hear more.

Also, watch this space as we will be bringing you a full Sky Glass Gen 2 review soon.

“We built Sky Glass as a brilliantly simple way for people to watch TV, making it easier to find the things they love from Sky and streaming apps," said Fraser Stirling, Global Chief Product Officer for Comcast and Sky.

"The new Sky Glass Gen 2 gives people our best TV experience yet, with a brighter picture and even more cinematic sound, and with flexible ways to buy it, it's more affordable than ever to get Sky TV.”
