Sally Nugent and Jon Kay were back on TV screens with a new instalment of BBC Breakfast on Monday (14 April). The two co-hosts brought the latest news to viewers, along with several interviews.

Among the day's headlines was pop star Katy Perry's trip to space, which has proven to be a huge talking point. The singer, along with five other women, will travel to space on Monday on Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin rocket.

A clip of Katy was shown on BBC Breakfast as she discussed making history and her goal to "inspire" young girls to take up these incredible opportunities in the future.

Turning to Sally, Jon asked: "Would you?" to which she responded: "Inspire young girls to go to space in the future?"

"No, go to space?!" Jon added, prompting his co-star to laugh. "No!" Sally exclaimed. "No. Not in a million!"

Jon agreed he also wouldn't travel to space even if given the chance, with Sally then remarking: "We're not good travellers!"

As the pair fell about laughing, attention turned to weather presenter Carol Kirkwood. Jon quipped: "We could send Carol, though."

Sally agreed: "Carol would go!" However, Carol quickly shut down the pair's predictions and insisted she also wouldn't go to space and joked that she is happy to remain on Earth.

The historic trip to space marks the first time in more than 60 years that a woman has travelled into space without a man.

Katy joins author Lauren Sanchez, journalist Gayle King, former rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen on the expedition.

The six women form the first all-female crew since Valentina Tereshkova's solo trip to space back in 1963.

Lauren, who is Jeff Bezos' fiancée, is leading the trip and said she selected her fellow female crew members because they had each "proven their ability to inspire others" while speaking to Elle magazine.

Meanwhile, Katy said it has been her dream to travel to space for almost 20 years, so it seemed like a no-brainer when she received the call inviting her on the trip.

BBC Breakfast airs on weekdays at 6am on BBC One
