Ruth Langsford has candidly spoken about the moment she realised her status as a "fun mum" had expired.

The ITV presenter, who shares her 23-year-old son, Jack, with Eamonn Holmes, from whom she separated last year, revealed that she's more likely to be the prankster in their relationship.

"He's 23 now. No, he's not a wind-up, actually. I probably do it more to him!" the Loose Women star confessed.

She then reflected on a "sudden" shift in their relationship, saying: "You'll find this, when they are little, they adore you, they love you, they want to be around you all the time.

"Jack and I are very close. I thought I was a really fun mum and I used to do things like sing, and I'd sing like the wrong lyrics and I'd get the name of the group wrong."

To illustrate her point, she shared an anecdote on the There I've Said It podcast: "You know like Rizzle Kicks? I'd come in and I'd go, 'Ah, I love Twizzle Sticks, they're great'.

"Jack thought I was hilarious, right? And then we'd be in the supermarket and I would dance and he thought I was hilarious."

However, there came a point when her antics were no longer amusing to him, as she said: "And then suddenly – I can't remember what age – I was in the supermarket, it came on and I was like, 'Twizzle Sticks, Jack!'

"He was literally like [squirming] 'Mum!' and then it suddenly happens and it's like, 'Oh he doesn't find me amusing anymore' and if you talk about sex, like, no!"

Ruth is known for keeping her son out of the limelight, rarely sharing photos of him on her social media platforms.

Ruth does, however, share insights into her family life while gracing the panel of Loose Women and in various media chats.

In a heart-to-heart with Woman and Home Magazine last year, she fondly referred to Jack as "the most delightful, caring and wonderful young man".

Speaking about what she wishes for most, Ruth disclosed: "Happiness. Happiness for my son Jack. When you have children, you look at them starting out in life and you just want everything to be good for them, for them to be happy and to not have their hearts broken."

Eamonn and Ruth, who were married for 14 years, publicly confirmed their separation in May 2024, with divorce proceedings reportedly still ongoing.

Discussing the split with the magazine, Ruth admitted she is "not delighted" about the end of her nuptials, but has reached a point of "acceptance".

"So I am trying to now embrace the fact that I'm single and can make choices that are just about me," she declared.

While Ruth is believed to remain single, Eamonn appears to have begun a new chapter alongside dating expert Katie Alexander, 43.
