Iran has unveiled a frightening new missile capable of targeting US "bases and forces". State TV broadcasted footage on Sunday showcasing the unveiling of a new ballistic missile amid escalating tensions over Tehran's nuclear ambitions and regional military operations.
Defence Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh warned: "If war is initiated by the US or Israel, Iran will strike their interests, bases and forces wherever they are and whenever necessary." Dubbed the "Qassem Basir", this solid-fueled missile underwent its latest test on April 17, as reported by state media. Nasirzadeh said the missile boasts improved maneuverability and guidance systems, designed to bypass defensive measures.
Iranian sources claim it has a range of 745 miles and can accurately hit targets without relying on GPS.
This comes after a missile attack by Yemen's Houthi rebels on Israeli soil, leading Israel to promise retribution against Iranian-supported factions.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to the strike, staying he would retaliate against "Iranian terror masters".
He wrote on X: "Attacks by the Houthis emanate from Iran. Israel will respond to the Houthi attack against our main airport AND, at a time and place of our choosing, to their Iranian terror masters."
Nasirzadeh denied direct involvement and insisted the Houthis act independently.
The US has also become increasingly involved in the conflict, launching strikes on Houthi strongholds in Yemen since March 15. Donald Trump declared that Iran will be held responsible for any attacks carried out by the group.
Nasirzadeh added that while Iran has "no hostility toward neighbouring countries", any US bases in the region would be considered targets if Iran were attacked.
