Princess Kate and Prince William seem to have enjoyed a recent staycation with their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. To celebrate their only daughter Princess Charlotte’s tenth birthday today, a new photograph of the young royal was shared on Prince William and Princess Kate’s official social media account. The photograph was taken on Princess Kate’s IPhone on a recent trip to Cumbria, which saw the family spend time in the great outdoors.
While it has not been confirmed, it is believed this recent holiday to Cumbria could have been over the Easter holidays. The new photo of Charlotte also seemed to be taken during a family hike, as the princess sat down on the grass surrounded by hills, wearing her own hiking backpack.
As reported by Hello!, Cumbria seems to be one of William and Kate’s favourite UK spots, especially because of the Lake District National Park. The family are believed to be fond of trips that allow them to spend plenty of time in nature as a family, with much-needed privacy.
This seems to be extremely important for the family - more so than ever before since Princess Kate’s cancer diagnosis last year, with Kate’s cancer now in remission. Throughout her battle with the disease, the Princess of Wales, 43, frequently spoke about the importance of nature, with the princess believed to have been an outdoor-type of person for most of her life.
Before even becoming a royal, it is believed Kate enjoyed hiking and adventurous holidays as a child with her parents Michael and Carole Middleton, alongside her siblings Pippa and James. In The Sunday Times, James once fondly reminisced on the family trips.
He said: “Holidays tended to be packing up the car and driving somewhere. Dad would find a mountain refuge where we’d have a rather sloppy soup-like meal for tea, but we were so hungry from a day of hiking that it tasted amazing.”
He also mentioned that as children, their parents also took him, Kate and Pippa to the Lake District - something Princess Kate seems to be doing now with her own children.
James told The Sunday Times: “Growing up, we’d also head to the Lake District, staying in rented cottages around Coniston Water and Windermere.
“It’s a very special place for us as a family, and the adventures we’d get up to as kids, from rock climbing on the crags to exploring the caves, were like something from The Famous Five.”
