There are concerns a popular pasta sauce may be contaminated with shards of glass. The product has been urgently recalled to supermarkets and people are being urged to check their store cupboards.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a "do not eat" alert on Organic Alla Norma Sauce. The product, which is sold in a number of retailers, is made with aubergines, tomato and garlic. However, the food safety watchdogs fear it "may contain pieces of glass".
The batch number 140227 with a best before date of February 14, 2027 is being recalled by manufacturer Organico. They are urging people not to consume the sauce but to return it as soon as possible.
Organico said: Please do not consume. Return to the retailer for a refund. If the retailer does not accept returns, please contact us for a refund. We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused."
The FSA added: "Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.
"If you have bought any of the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to the retailer it was purchased from for a refund."
It comes just a day after Asda recalled their Hot and Spicy chicken breast slices. The supermarket said they were put on the shelves with the wrong use-by date.

"You do not need your receipt. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused. If you would like any further information, please contact: Asda Customer Relations – 0800 952 0101."
Last week, Morrisons recalled packs of sausages over fears they contain small pieces of plastic. The notice applied to Morrisons The Best 6 Thick Cumberland Sausages.
The supermarket said: "Morrisons is recalling the above product with Use By 01 May because there is a risk that some packs may contain small pieces of blue plastic. Please do not eat this product and return it to your nearest store for a full refund. We don’t need a receipt."
