Discussing his middle-aged obsession with gardening, handsome devil Dominic West, cheekily suggests it’s replaced the previous passion in his life. “I suppose you get to a certain age,” The Crown star, 55, remarks. “I never even looked at a tree until I was about 50. Then suddenly, I think as your libido dissipates, you realise there are trees and plants around!”

Speculation about the married father-of-five’s libido has certainly been a talking point in the past: wed to Irish aristocrat Catherine FitzGerald for 15 years, West was forgiven by his spouse after publication of awkwardly affectionate photos with beautiful co-star Lily James in 2020. Spotted kissing young Lily’s neck while the pair were in Rome, he later described the resulting furore as an “absurd situation”. Best to focus on pruning those roses, Dominic!

Photographed manning campaign phones alongside Sir Keir Starmer this week, Ross Kemp can't always be relied upon to be a Labour luvvie. Just last summer, the presenter and EastEnders star surprisingly confirmed he was backing “fantastic” Tory MP Mark Francois at the General Election. When did Labour comrades forgive him?

Another week and another Hollywood star finding himself on the receiving end of catty criticism from veteran actor Brian Cox. This time it’s Jake Gyllenhaal in the Scotsman’s sights, after Cox cuttingly announces the American’s performance in the current Othello production on Broadway is “not particularly wonderful”.

The latest dig follows Brian’s similarly scathing assessments of Oscar-winner Joaquin Phoenix and former Succession co-star Jeremy Strong; before that, there was the 2021 memoir when Cox couldn’t resist taking jabs at Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Michael Caine and Johnny Depp, to name but three.

Revelling in the attention that's come with achieving celebrity fame in later life, Brian’s unhealthy obsession with taking aim at the work of others shows no sign of abating.

With Sir Ringo Starr’s drummer son Zak Starkey first “fired”, then hastily reinstated by The Who after almost 30 years in the group, frontman Roger Daltrey complains his role in the fiasco has been unfairly portrayed.

“All I want to say is, it's fake news! I'm not guilty!” the rock legend protests during his current solo tour. Deep breaths, old boy.

Never shy of reminding us she’s glamorously defying Father Time, Jane Seymour claims she can still portray women almost 25 years her junior.

“If I can keep myself well I can definitely play 50,” the former Bond girl, 74, confidently declares. Jane, however now modestly draws the line at playing “40 or 30”. Doubtless for the best: cast as 12th century queen consort Eleanor of Aquitaine in 2021 series Glow and Darkness, the Uxbridge-born star raised eyebrows after boldly announcing she’d been assured by execs she could still pass for “25” when portraying a youthful version of the character in flashback scenes.

Matters turned tense when irked Jane belatedly discovered bosses had cast a more age-appropriate actress for said scenes after all...
