Food critic and writer, Tom Parker Bowles, has opened up about his health struggles with hypochondria during an appearance on presenter Gabby Logan's Mid Point podcast. The son of Queen Camilla believes he's often "convinced" he's dying due to the condition. P
eople with hypochondria frequently worry about their health, even when nothing is seriously wrong. Signs can include going to the doctor frequently without feeling reassured, talking a lot about health and spending excessive time online researching symptoms.
Speaking about his hypochondria, Parker Bowles told presenter Logan: "I'm a total hypochondriac, I'm always convinced that I'm dying of something, like a headache is always going to be brain cancer, a cough is always going to be lung (cancer)."
Mr Parker Bowles also added: "I do go to my doctor, who is a magnificent man, rather a lot, saying 'this is it doc, this is the big one.'"
His candid admission highlights the significant impact the condition has on his daily life. The Royal Family member's openness about his health anxiety offers insight into a condition that affects many.
The NHS defines 'Hypochondria' as 'health anxiety'. The website states: "Health anxiety is when you spend so much time worrying you're ill, or going to get ill, that it starts to take over your life. It's related to obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)."
Despite his health anxiety, Parker Bowles previously told Vogue magazine he made lifestyle changes ahead of turning 50, saying: "I was like: 'Right, I'm getting too fat.'"
Tom's illustrious career spans across some of the nation's most prestigious publications, having penned articles for Tatler, Esquire, Conde Nast, Country Life, and Harper's Bazaar.
In recent times, he has branched out into creating his own culinary books. His latest offering, Cooking and the Crown: Royal Recipes from Queen Victoria to King Charles III, sees Tom divulging 100 recipes spanning two centuries of royals.
While it includes some extravagant dishes like 'Pommes Elizabeth' and 'Pudding au Pain et aux Cerises', there are plenty of simpler recipes to try at home.
