As of April 2025, the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) reported a total of 1,256 firearm offences in London over the past 12 months, marking a 3% increase compared to the previous year.
Nevertheless, the capital's gun crime rate remains lower than that of several other major UK cities, such as Birmingham and Manchester.
The Met has attributed the rise to a combination of factors, including increased gang activity and the proliferation of illegal firearms.
In response, the force has intensified its efforts, leading to a 7% increase in firearm-related arrests over the same period.
