Homebase has announced six brand new openings inside The Range superstores across the UK and Ireland next month.
The openings are part of the DIY and garden retailer’s rollout of “exclusive” garden centres, with more than 100 sites already open to customers. The rollout comes after Homebase closed a swathe of its stores after falling into administration in November last year, blaming a decline in consumer confidence and spending post-pandemic for its collapse.
But a rescue deal with retail group CDS - which owns The Range - saved around 70 Homebase stores and 1,600 jobs, and rival retailer B&Q took over a further five branches. The former Homebase sites in Altrincham, Basingstoke, Biggleswade, Leamington Spa and Worcester are due to be converted into B&Q stores this spring.
Four former Homebase stores are also due to be transformed into Wickes after the home improvement brand acquired the leases for sites in Dunfermline, Bury St Edmunds, Leeds Moor Allerton and Northampton. These stores will reopen later this year under the Wickes brand.
Despite a wave of store closures, Homebase isn’t disappearing for good as customers can still shop the brand as its new garden centres inside The Range superstores.
The retailer has now confirmed the opening of six more ‘Garden Centres by Homebase’ across the UK and Ireland in May, with even more due to be announced soon. The openings come after four new Homebase garden centres opened inside The Range superstores this month.
Announcing the news in a post on Facebook, Homebase said: “Introducing FOUR brand-new & exclusive Garden Centres by Homebase – now open inside The Range superstores in Haverfordwest, Rayleigh Weir, Nutgrove (Dublin), and Drakehouse Park (Sheffield)!
“Each store is packed with premium houseplants, garden must-haves, and everything you need to turn your outdoor space into a green paradise! But that’s not all... more openings are on the way! Opening in May:
