Nicholas Lyndhurst lives a quiet life in a stunning UK village – and his home is just minutes away from Hollywood stars like Kate Winslet. The Only Fools and Horses star, best known for playing Rodney Trotter in the hit sitcom, settled down in West Wittering. It’s a far cry from a small flat in Peckham.
The seaside village, located in Sussex, boasts stunning mansions and gorgeous beach-side views with “excellent” water quality. With a population of around 3,000 as of the last census, houses in the area typically sell for upwards of £4million.
Though Nicholas, 64, tends to keep his private life quiet, he has divulged some details about his home over the years. He lives there with his wife Lucy Smith. The pair were struck with tragedy when their only son, Archie, died in his sleep from a brain haemorrhage aged just 19 years old in 2020.
Since then, Nicholas has denied retiring from acting, though his longtime friend Laurence Marks claimed he is unlikely to ever return to the spotlight. He said: “Nicholas underwent tragedy. He has always kept himself to himself and now he’ll do that more than ever. Now he’s lost his son, he’ll never come out again.”
In one interview with Radio Times, Nicholas revealed details about their home life setup, explaining: “I actually haven't watched television for quite a long time. My living room faces the garden, not the TV, because that feels a bit 'worky'.
“I watch the news and I watch some documentaries, but otherwise I don't turn on the TV very often. I don't stream, or binge…”
In his spare time, the Goodnight Sweetheart star enjoys taking diving holidays. He’s also a trained pilot and owns several planes as well as his stunning rural property. The actor even keeps bees at his Sussex home, and he’s been a member of the British Beekeepers Association since 1994.
Of course, he isn’t the only major star who lives in West Wittering. It’s also home to Titanic star Kate Winslet, Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards and singer Michael Ball. Keith regularly turns up to council meetings to oppose new beachfront developments.
