BBC One's usual weekend schedule has undergone a huge shake-up to make way for some historic events this weekend. The broadcaster's flagship channel will not show its usual programmes on Saturday (26 April) due to coverage of Pope Francis' funeral airing.
The BBC has confirmed that the funeral, taking place at St Peter's Square in Vatican City, will be shown on BBC One from 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Journalist Reeta Chakrabarta will front the coverage, which is scheduled to be three hours and 59 minutes long.
This has prompted a big shake-up to BBC One's Saturday schedule, as Saturday Kitchen and Mary Berry: Love to Cook will both be pulled from their slots. The programmes usually air at 10 a.m. and 11.30 a.m., respectively.
However, fans of the TV shows won't have to miss out as the BBC has organised for both programmes to air on BBC Two at their usual times.
After broadcasting coverage of Pope Francis' funeral, the BBC Weekend News will air at 12.30pm - a slightly earlier time slot than its usual 1pm slot. This will be followed by BBC Weather at 12.40pm.
London Marathon: My Reason to Run, fronted by Gabby Logan, will air for 30 minutes from 12.45pm, followed by the Snooker World Championship, which begins at 1.15pm.
After more news updates, BBC One will show The FA Cup Semi-Final: Crystal Palace v Aston Villa at 4.45pm, with a new episode of Doctor Who broadcasting at 7.20pm.
The changes come following the death of Pope Francis on Easter Monday. The Vatican shared the news in a statement on Monday (21 April) morning, revealing he had died at 88 years old.
“Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of His Church. He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage, and universal love, especially in favor of the poorest and most marginalized," the statement read.
The Funeral of Pope Francis will air on Saturday on BBC One from 8.30am
