Meghan Markle opened up about changing the name of her brand at the eleventh hour on her latest podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, which highlights the achievements of entrepreneurial women. Talking to her special guest, hairdresser Kadi Lee, she explained she'd originally intended American Riviera to be the main brand name, and for Orchard to be used for a handful of smaller sales verticals.
Insisting she'd wanted the "Orchard" part of the name to be "really small", she added: "When that’s not feasible, the name suddenly became this word salad. I didn’t love that so much." Piers Morgan reposted a reference to the "word salad" quote this week, sarcastically swiping: "As opposed to everything else she says…" He added a string of tears of laughter emojis for comic effect.
His mocking tweet on X divided opinion, with some claiming that Meghan had actually failed to get her American Riviera Orchard name trademarked and suggesting that was the real reason she'd nixed it.
A Santa Barbara local entered the debate to clarify that the area had been branding itself the American Riviera for decades.
Meanwhile, in the podcast, the wife of Prince Harry confirmed that she had been worried the name would be tied to a California location and limit her to only products that had been produced locally.
However, some followers on X urged Piers to "seek help", quizzing why he was still reading about her following their infamous rift.
The row had culminated in Piers storming out of the GMB studios after refusing to apologise for his on-screen claims implying she wasn't been truthful about her mental health.
"Imagine if you devoted the same energy you spend berating Meghan Markle, to calling out the lies and corruption unfolding almost daily under your 'good friend' Trump (and his administration)," one follower challenged.
Meanwhile, Meghan issued an update on her current projects, explaining that she'll be continuing with her As Ever podcast, and the Netflix show With Love, Meghan, which has proved controversial with viewers.
“I’m doing the podcast right now, the show, and the brand. That's three launches at the same time. It’s a lot of moving pieces, but it’s also energising," she exclaimed.
