Coronation Street fans were stunned to realise newcomer Jonathan Howard, who plays Carl Webster has a very famous wife and took to social media to share their surprise. The actor made his debut on the ITV soap this month, playing the brother of Kevin (Michael Le Vell) and Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) as Kevin battles testicular cancer and Debbie is diagnosed with dementia.
However off screen his life is far less dramatic. The 38-year-old actor has been in a relationship fellow thespian Elodie Yung for over a decade and they married during the pandemic. They share a daughter who was born in 2018. Elodie had an impressive CV having starred in the likes of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Daredevil. More recently, she played the title role of Thony De La Rosa in The Cleaning Lady. A fan posted a picture of the couple on a Coronation Street Facebook page and people flocked to the comments to discuss it.
“Jonathan Howard who plays Carl and his wife Elodie Yung,” they wrote alongside the image.
“Why do I recognise his wife?” one asked. “She’s been in a few things, The Cleaning Lady on Sky,” another responded.
“Oh yes! That’s where I’ve seen her!”a third chimed in.“She played Elektra as well,” a fourth wrote as a fifth simply commented with a mind-blown emoji.
Jonathan also boasts an impressive Hollywood CV prior to joining Corrie. He appeared in several Hollywood blockbusters including World War Z, Downton Abbey, Thor: The Dark World and Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
Jonathan arrived in Weatherfield with a bang. Literally. His character Carl had a minor collision in Frescho's car park with Abi Wester (Sally Carman).
Unaware she is his sister in law he began flirting with her and his efforts seemed to be reciprocated.
He asked her out for a drink, despite her insistence she was married. However, later on, their paths crossed again when Carl showed up at the Bistro to surprise his family.
Abi was left floored after realising the man in the car park was her husband's little brother as he caught up with the ongoing dramas in his siblings lives.
