Asda has launched an urgent recall of its 'Simple To Cook Asian Inspired Pork Belly Slices' amid fears some packs could trigger allergic reactions. The supermarket behemoth has swiftly pulled the product from its shelves and is warning customers who may have snapped up the product to avoid eating it.
It emerged that several pork belly slices might include milk and sulphites, which are allergens that could pose a serious health risk for people with allergies. Adding to the mix-up, some packs were incorrectly labelled as Asda Simple To Cook Tomato and Mozzarella Pork Meatballs.
Affected products display a use-by date of April 25 and carry the barcode 5063089827178. Shoppers in possession of the implicated item should return it immediately to their local Asda store – they can expect a full refund without the need for a receipt. Responding to the incident, an Asda spokesperson assured The Sun that no other products from different dates are involved. "We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused. If you would like any further information please contact Asda Customer Relations - 08009520101," they stated, as reported by the Express, reports Leeds Live.
Furthermore, FoodGov officials cautioned: "Asda is recalling Asda Simple To Cook Asian Inspired Pork Belly Slices because the product may contain milk and sulphites which are not mentioned on the label." This omission suggests the product could be potentially hazardous for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, or those with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites.
The supermarket issued a cautionary statement, saying: "Some packs have been mispacked with Asda Simple To Cook Tomato and Mozzarella Pork Meatballs."
They added: "If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents and/or a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund."
