Grand Tour star Jeremy Clarkson has updated fans after suffering a gruesome injury after an accident while playing pickleball. The 65-year-old Clarkson's Farm star took to Instagram to share a gnarly picture of his hand, showing it covered in blood as it appeared that his little finger's nail was missing.
He posed his blood-covered hand over a pickleball raquet as he captioned the Instagram snap, explaining what had happened. "Turns out pickleball is bloody dangerous," he wrote. The comments showed that he had been partaking in the sport with 'Juice Master', Jason Vale, who commented: "…and I fear I’m a little to blame."
Clarkson replied with two simple words, saying: "You are," while not elaborating further on what had happened to cause the injury. Other comments poked fun at the presenter, while some more wished him well.
One fan quipped: "You seemed to have gotten your self into a right pickle there Jeremy!" Another added: "Looks nasty, but we all know sport's bad for your health. We're currently enjoying a pint or two of @hawkstone cider. That'd take the pain away."
"How, in the name of all that’s holy, did you do that?," someone else asked, while a fourth posted: "All that farming and you injure yourself doing sport?"
The Who Wants to Be a Millionaire host has been embarking on more athletic hobbies as part of a lifestyle overhaul following a heart procedure last year. It came following a "sudden deterioration" in his health.
He recounted how he struggled to climb stairs after a swim while on holiday, with his condition worsening upon his return to Britain. The TV legend said that he had experienced symptoms such as being "clammy", "tightness in my chest", along with "pins and needles in my left arm".
He decided to seek medical advice and further examinations led him to an "operating theatre" where doctors discovered one of his arteries was completely blocked, and another almost there, nearly making him severely ill. A life-saving stent was placed within two hours, which potentially prevented future heart attacks by enhancing blood flow to the heart.
Clarkson disclosed to the Sunday Times that doctors had informed him he was just "days away" from potentially severe illness, remarking: "Crikey, that was close."
