Families planning long journeys over the Easter weekend have been urged to consider stopping at some of the UK's best motorway service stations, offering unique attractions and pleasant views.

Whilst many Brits only use service stations as a pitstop for a bathroom and a bite to eat, the vehicle rental service SIXT UK highlighted that many across the country have significantly more to offer.

Jamie Holt, Operations Director and resident travel expert for SIXT UK, suggested that many motorway service stations can be particularly enjoyable to use.

He explained: "A good motorway stop can make all the difference on a long journey – whether you’re heading off with friends, escaping the city for a solo reset, or road-tripping with the whole family.

"From great food and clean facilities to unexpected extras like walking trails or local produce stalls, these spots are the perfect place to stretch your legs and make the journey part of the adventure."

According to SIXT UK, one of the best motorway service stations in the country is Cobham Services on the M25, stating it offers a refreshing break from the intense traffic the popular motorway typically faces.

In particular, the company praised the number of shops and restaurants featured in the services, with big names like Greggs, McDonalds, and M&S mixing with lesser-known choices such as the Cornwall Pasty Company and El Mexicana.

The service station also offers particularly clean bathrooms and a significant seating area - allowing drivers and other passengers to stretch their legs on long journeys.

SIXT UK also suggested that drivers planning to travel along the M6 motorway should consider stopping at Rugby Services, praising its wide range of spaces for children.

They added: "Designed with families in mind, Rugby Services has two play zones, a huge picnic space, and plenty of green areas to let restless little ones burn off energy before hitting the road again."

Passengers who stop at Rugby Services can also find a significant number of leading-name restaurants and shops, including Costa, Burger King, and WH Smith.

No matter where they are travelling over the Easter weekend, planning to visit service stations can be incredibly important in keeping all occupants comfortable and safe.

According to the Highway Code, drivers should try to stop every two hours for a break of at least 15 minutes in order to avoid feeling drowsy behind the wheel.

Whilst drivers who do not take regular breaks during long journeys are not necessarily breaking the law, they could face longer reaction times, putting them and others at risk of serious accidents.
