Iceland continues to hold the title of the world’s most peaceful nation according to the Global Peace Index 2024, a position it has held since its inception of the GPI in 2009.

The index, which considers factors such as societal safety, ongoing conflict and militarisation, noted:

  1. Iceland has one of the lowest violent crime rates in the world, with a low murder rate and minimal corruption.

  2. They have a strong social welfare system that supports a peaceful and cohesive society.

  3. Iceland boasts a highly educated population that contributes to a more peaceful society

  4. Iceland does not have an army, further reinforcing its peaceful stance.

There are many great things you could say about Iceland, but the most important is their strong sense of community and responsibility. As well as being one of the most peaceful countries, it is also one of the most beautiful. So let’s dive into what this utopia has to offer.

One of Iceland's main attractions is the Blue lagoon. If you haven’t heard of it yet, after this you'll be searching for the next flight out to one of the world’s most popular geothermal spas.

The lagoon is known for its milky blue, mineral-rich waters and volcanic landscape. It's located between Keflavík Airport and Reykjavik, making it a convenient stop for travelers.

The water contains silica and blue-green algae, which are thought to have beneficial effects on the skin, which is why they offer it to guests as face masks. They also have an in-water bar serving a selection of drinks including smoothies, juices, and alcoholic beverages.

With a 4.6 star Google reviews rating, what’s stopping you? Anna from Dublin, shares about her experience writing, “Absolutely loved this, from the moment we parked the car( following the scary moment we had to drive past the still smoking post erupted volcano) it was magical. From the colour of the water to the facilities offered to the visitors it was top class.”

For lovers of the natural world, Iceland is the perfect destination because of its diverse and stunning landscapes, including glaciers, volcanoes, hot springs, and unique ecosystems. The country's remote location, clean air, and commitment to sustainable tourism further enhance its appeal for those seeking to connect with nature.

Iceland is home to vast glaciers and stunning ice caves, offering opportunities for hiking, ice climbing, and exploring breathtaking ice formations. The country's volcanic activity has created a landscape of lava fields, craters, and geothermal areas, including active volcanoes and geothermal areas like the Blue Lagoon.

Visitors can also experience the unique phenomenon of the midnight sun during the summer months and the magical aurora borealis (Northern Lights) in the winter, offering breathtaking celestial displays. I saw them back in my travels in 2018. It was the most magical experience of my life that I encourage all to experience at least once in their lifetime.
