Prince Harry’s calls and letters to his father King Charles are reportedly being left “unanswered”, according to a palace source. Since quitting royal life in 2020 with his wife Meghan Markle, Harry has endured fractured relationships with his royal relatives, including his father and brother. While the Duke of Sussex, 40, did see the monarch last year when it was first revealed Charles, 76, has cancer, he has not seen his dad since.
This is despite the fact Harry has been in the UK multiple times since, with his last visit being just a week ago for the duke’s court appeal hearing into his UK security, following a Home Office decision in 2020 to reduce the level of security offered to the prince when he visits his home country. While the King has remained tight-lipped about his relationship with his youngest son, Prince Harry’s friends have told People magazine that the prince’s letters and calls to the monarch have not been answered.
It has also been reported that Harry, who has lived in America since 2020, has not been updated about his father's current condition or prognosis regarding his cancer.
A palace source told People: "I don’t think there is any rapprochement.” Another source also described the relationship between the King and Harry as “distant”.
While neither has commented on the matter, Harry has always remained adamant that he loves his family, and made this clear after visiting the King in February 2024.
Harry flew to the UK as soon as the King’s cancer announcement was made public and had a short meeting with his father before they went their separate ways.
In a conversation with ABC’s Good Morning America after seeing his father last year, the duke - who was at an Invictus event at the time - said: “I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I'm grateful for that.”
Harry has restrained from talking about his royal relatives over the last year and is not believed to have met up with any of them on any of his UK returns.
It is not known whether he has any upcoming plans to see his father in the near future.
