Mark Wright has lifted the lid on the real reason he and Michelle Keegan named their newborn daughter Palma Elizabeth Wright. The beloved couple, who got married in 2015, sent shockwaves across social media after confirming the birth of their first child and her name with a heartwarming Instagram post.
This came just three months after the duo announced the pregnancy, sparking excitement and elation among their fans. In their first post of Palma, it was widely reported that Mark and Michelle named their baby as a touching tribute to their favourite city in Spain. However, the Towie star recently revealed this wasn’t the case as he explained the real reason during an appearance on ITV’s This Morning.
When presenter Sian Welby mentioned the “special meaning behind the name,” Mark, 38, clarified and said: "That's what the papers say. We just love the name Palmer, with an 'E-R'.
“And then we just liked putting an 'A' on it, which is like the way it read. So yeah, we just love the name, really.”
It was initially thought that the moniker came from Palma de Mallorca, where he and Michelle often escape for extra warmth during the summer months.
The couple even own a luxury apartment on the sun-soaked island, complete with sweeping sea views and plush interiors.
Palma's middle name was said to be dedicated to Michelle's great-great-grandmother, Elizabeth Kirwan, who was part of the suffragette movement on the English side of her family.
Elsewhere on the ITV programme, Mark gushed about becoming a new father, describing his new journey as “the best thing.”
Speaking about the newborn, he enthused: “She's amazing, she's so good. She's only five weeks old and we get to 11pm and she goes to sleep and won't wake up again until about five, which is incredible.”
Just last week, the Heart Radio presenter shared snapshots of their countryside getaway which included an adorable photo of him cradling Palma and pushing her in a pram.
Mark shared his bliss as he captioned the post: “In my Dad era…. trip away with my girls.”
