Donald Trump has issued a six-word remark ahead of US-Russian talks in Saudi Arabia today, and it might jeopardise Volodymyr Zelensky's peace plans. The Ukrainian president has previously expressed his wish for his country to regain its previous borders and for Russia to give back the territories it has seized over the years. However, his US counterpart appeared to suggest that this was up for discussion, saying: "We're talking about territory right now."
Mr Trump added: "We're talking about lines of demarcation, Talking about power, power plant ownership. Some people are saying the United States should own the power plant ... because we have the expertise." The US president is also reportedly looking to strike a deal on Ukrainian power plants so he can access the country's rare minerals, according to two senior officials speaking with the Financial Times.
