BBC London weather experts have pinpointed the date when London will next bask in pure sunshine following a spell of rain in the capital. Despite an unusually warm start to Spring, Londoners experienced their first downpour in three weeks on Tuesday, April 15. However, brighter days are just around the corner. On Sunday, April 27, the city is predicted to enjoy 17C temperatures and sunshine. The capital has enjoyed an exceptionally warm and dry start to April, with temperatures reaching around 23C this weekend. The first few days of the month have seen over 100 hours of sunshine in most areas.
This unusually warm weather has been due to high pressures blocking weather systems from the West. However, rain on Tuesday is set to change this, with sporadic showers expected over the next 10 days. Temperatures are still expected to remain mild, dropping to 15C on Wednesday, April 16 and climbing as high as 17C from Tuesday, April 22 to Thursday, April 24.
The Met Office offers a glimmer of hope for Londoners with a slightly more upbeat forecast for the upcoming week. The capital can expect generally overcast or cloudy conditions with temperatures hovering around 16C.
Meanwhile, NetWeather is forecasting a modest rise in temperatures for Monday (April 28), predicting highs of 17C.
Despite this, the Met Office cautions that the UK should brace for a "mixed bag" of weather next week. A dip in temperatures and rainfall is on the horizon, replacing the recent warm spell.
This shift could be a relief in some regions, where firefighters have been combatting significant wildfires due to the prolonged dry spell. Met Office spokesperson Craig Snell characterises the upcoming week's weather as a "mixed bag".
He said: "It is going to be a more changeable week this week compared to what we have been used to for the last two to three weeks. High pressure has gone away now, and we're just going to be firmly under the influence of low pressure as we go through the week ahead.
"It's not going to be a complete washout – we will see some further sunnier moments, but most of the UK will see some rain at some point. Compared to the day-on-day blue skies we had last week it is going to feel very different during the week ahead."
