Police have launched an investigation after a man was found dead in a field close to the M60 motorway.
Emergency services were called to land near Sandgate Road in Whitefield, Bury, at around 10.45am on Monday morning (April 14).
The field lies between Prestwich Heys Football Club and Parrenthorn Road, just off a stretch of the busy motorway.
Officers attended the scene following reports of an unconscious man. Paramedics also responded, but the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
A cordon was put in place as forensics teams and detectives carried out initial investigations.
Police tape surrounded the area as officers worked to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
In a statement, Greater Manchester Police confirmed the incident and said an investigation was underway.
A spokesperson said: “At around 10.45am yesterday morning (Monday, April 14 2025), we were called to reports of an unconscious male on Sandgate Road in Whitefield, Bury.
“Officers attended and sadly found a body in nearby open ground. Enquiries into the man’s death are ongoing.”
The man's identity has not yet been confirmed and no further details about the nature of his death have been released.
The area remained sealed off throughout Monday afternoon as enquiries continued.
Police have not said whether the death is being treated as suspicious at this stage.
